Charts are useful ways to figure out how piano chords are formed. Say, for example, you wanted to form the "C 7th" chord on the piano. By looking at the Piano Chord Chart below (left), you can see that the 7th chord is formed with the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7thᵇ note of the C major scale. If you don't already know the notes of the C major scale, take a look at the Major Scale Chart (right), and find the C scale notes. So, the C 7th piano chord is: 1st 3rd 5th 7thᵇ C E G Bᵇ
Note that, for notation simplicity, we use a double flat (ᵇᵇ) in the Piano Chord Chart. This simply means that you take the note two half-tones down. For example, Aᵇᵇ means you would play a G on the piano.
